Alicia Burdess

Assistant Principal

My name is Alicia Burdess and I grew up in St. Albert, Alberta.  I attended French Immersion Schools from Kindergarten to grade 12.  I completed my Bachelor of Physical Education at the University of Alberta and went back to the Faculté St. Jean for my After-Degree in Education.  After teaching for 10 years, I completed my Master's Degree in Numeracy from Simon Fraser University.  I have taught in the Grande Prairie Catholic School Division since 2005 in a variety of capacities including Physical Education, Science, and Mathematics.  I spent two years at St. Pat's Sports Academy as the hockey coach and four years at central office as the Numeracy Lead Teacher/Instructional Coach for the district.  I had the opportunity to work and learn with teachers and students in all grade levels. I am excited to begin my new role as Assistant Principal at St. John Paul II High School.  My biggest passion is teaching math; I am currently teaching grade 9 Math in French Immersion.  I love learning and I want my students to love learning.  I believe that collaboration, creativity, perseverance, and confidence are the most important aspects in learning anything, and I strive to instill these qualities in my students and in our school.  We are continuously solving problems, engaging in cross-curricular projects, working together, and building a Catholic community.
